MEET OUR ORGANIST
David Hamblin is an outstanding organist who we are privileged to have here at First Presbyterian. The many features of our beautiful pipe organ are displayed as he plays at the morning Heritage Worship service. He credits his parents’ devout service and commitment to the church for his introduction to church music and his eventual musical pursuits. He began his career while still in high school, as the organist at Hegewisch Methodist Church. He was admitted to Indiana University School of Music; he received his degree in elementary education with concentrations in organ and voice. He then taught in the schools in Hammond and in Lansing, IL. Concurrent with teaching, he served as Organist-Choirmaster at Christ Church, Episcopal in Gary pursuing vocal studies with Martha Dubin and organ with Dwight Davis. For twenty-four years he was Minister of Music at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Highland, for six years was Organist-Choirmaster at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Munster and since 2003 has been the organist here at First Presbyterian Church in Highland. David is also actively associated with the music at the United Methodist Church in Englewood, Florida.
MEET OUR CHOIR DIRECTOR
Glen Williams is the Choir Director at First Presbyterian Church Highland. Glen understands how to work with the voices and repertoire available to him and produce stunning results, melding the individuals into an amazing community of vocalists. He comes to us with years of teaching vocal and instrumental music, and with choir experience from both sides of the podium. He taught vocal and instrumental music in the Hammond Public Schools. He was Adjunct Professor of Music at Indiana University Northwest where he taught voice and piano, and was music director of many music theatre productions there and at Indiana State University. He has been a member of the William Ferris Chorale of Chicago with whom he has done numerous recordings, studio and backup work. He sang with the choirs of City Methodist Church in Gary, Ogden Dunes Community Church in Portage and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Chicago. Glen is a highly trained musician who studied choral conducting with Dwight Davis and Karen French and holds a BA and an MA in music from Indiana University and VanderCook College respectively. Glen is an exciting and demanding person to work with. With his skill and humor, the choir creates a joyful noise unto the Lord!
