OUR BELIEFS

First Presbyterian Church of Highland is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We are thus part of the World Communion of Reformed Churches, rooted in the Reformed Tradition of theology. Most importantly, we are part of the Body of Christ.

We Believe:

  • Jesus is Lord.
  • God is love, and God is triune - Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; Mother, Child, and Spirit.
  • The Old Testament and New Testament are Holy Spirit-inspired accounts of God's activity.   They are thus the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ.
  • The Word of God is spoken into all contexts, interpreted by people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, ages, and abilities.
  • The Church is the Body of Christ, rightfully and forever seeking reconciliation and unity.
  • The sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper are signs and seals of God’s grace. They are also active celebrations of a living community.
  • All are beloved. All are welcome!
